About MenstrualCup
The MenstrualCup is a very clever form of menstrual protection. It is a small cup made of medical grade silicone that collects your menstrual fluid instead of absorbing it like a tampon. This means that it has no negative effects and does not cause dryness, unlike the traditional forms of menstrual protection.
The cup can be used for up to 12 hours. After this, remove and empty it in the toilet or the shower and wash it with fragrance free, pH-neutral soap and water. It is then ready to use again.

Another great thing with a menstrual cup is that you can swim with it. It makes a tight seal, meaning menstrual fluid remains in the cup and water stays out. You do not need to empty it after bathing. It gives you freedom! Do what you want, when you want. Don’t think about your period.

It is very kind to your wallet, you use it for several years and you only need one.

From an environmental point of view, this cup is a great invention. A woman uses an average of about 11,000 tampons and pads in her lifetime, or about FOUR menstrual cups. That makes a huge difference to the mountains of waste!

History
The first factory-made menstrual cup was made from rubber and was manufactured in the USA in the late 1930s. Production fell behind due to a shortage of rubber during WWII. The cup was rather stiff and may therefore have been difficult to use. The user had to touch the vagina with her fingers, which may also have been a contributing factor to the menstrual cup not achieving the same popularity as the tampon with insertion sleeve (also produced in the 1930s), and naturally did not have the same high number of users as napkins, which were used before both of these.
